~~~~~~~`TEAM HISTORY`~~~~~~~
The University at Buffalo Freeze Women's Ice Hockey Team was recognized
as a club sport and began their first season in the fall of 1998. As the first collegiate
hockey program in Western New York, the primary goal of the team has been to build
a reputable women's hockey organization that both attracts and encourages women,
at all levels of play, to participate and excel. The Freeze organization has made tremen-
dous strides since its inaugural year, expanding both the length and intensity of its
season. Where the first year of competition involved only a few games against local
women's teams, the Freeze now play a full schedule against a diverse roster of
collegiate teams.
In 1999, the Freeze became one of the founding members of the MAWCHA with other
league members Univ. of Pittsburgh, Penn State, Univ. of Maryland and Rutgers
University. Last season the team continued its ground breaking work in women's ice hockey
by joining the newly formed ACHA Women's division, as one of its founding members.

This season, with the MAWCHA league out on hold, the Freeze will
play a full ACHA competitive schedule.
